About The Event
Map and compass skills are an important set of tools for any backpacker, day hiker or adventurer. Not only do they help provide a safe and enjoyable experience, but they also open the door for exploration. No matter where you are, a map and compass will not fail you as long as you know how to use it. These navigation tools also don't rely on satellite signal or batteries. In this session we will go over the basics of a map and a compass, use the two to navigate in a beautiful outdoor setting and use them on their own along the New England Trail. We will demystify topics like declination, topo scale, 7.5 min USGS quad maps and a formula to help you time plan your outings more effieciently. You will leave this workshop feeling more confident in navigation and with using these items from your Ten Essentials kit.
Maps and compasses will be provided, though you can bring your own compass if you'd like. Snacks and water are provided too. RSVP Required. An event itinerary will be emailed to all participants with signup confirmation.
